A weekend of led walks in SWALEDALE

HASSRA Leeds Rambling Club is planning another weekend of walks in Upper Swaledale, based at the Kearton Country Hotel in the village of Thwaite. Thwaite is perched at the top of Swaledale and on the Pennine Way, just over the Buttertubs Pass from Wensleydale. The hotel itself sits at the foot of Shunner Fell and Kisden Hill. This dramatic and isolated setting offers superb walking at all seasons of the year.

The Kearton Country Hotel is a twelve bedroom family-run hotel, with refurbished en suite rooms but no television. The hotel has only one single bedroom, so it will be easier to accommodate single travellers who are willing to 'buddy'. We shall have two nights’ dinner, bed and breakfast. Our party usually fills the hotel, so that evenings have a pleasant 'house party' atmosphere. This is always one of the Rambling Club’s most popular trips.

Itinerary

There is no coach with this trip: we shall make our own way to Thwaite by car. Lifts can be arranged if you have no transport: please indicate when booking if you need or can offer a lift. The Rambling Club will be leading walks on each of the three days - a short walk (about 6-8 miles) on the Friday and Sunday and a full day walk (up to about 10 or 12 miles but with a shorter option if necessary) on the Saturday. We shall meet at around 11am on the Friday, at a place to be confirmed about a week before the trip (when reccies will have been done). The Sunday walk will finish by about 2pm, so that we should be back in Leeds around 5pm.

The price for HASSRA Leeds members is £66.30; the price for non-members is £93.
